Check current eligibility rather than an old surcharge notice
Texas ended the Driver Responsibility Program on September 1, 2019. An old reference to that program should not be used as a current payment instruction. Other enforcement actions or reinstatement requirements can still affect a driver’s record, so check your own status through official channels.
Use the Texas DPS eligibility information to identify outstanding requirements. If a record points to a court, agency, or compliance action, contact the responsible office for instructions. Do not assume that the repeal of one program cleared every unrelated obligation.
Resolve questions before booking
Review the name, identifying information and status shown on the official record. Follow the agency’s process for correcting a mismatch or providing required documentation. Keep confirmations of any action you complete.
Before paying for a CDL test reservation, make sure you understand whether your licensing status supports the appointment. A practice subscription or vehicle rental cannot remove a suspension, resolve a court matter, or establish eligibility.
